A thing happens that makes us think, "This is the moment everything is changing."
A job offer. A wedding. Adopting a dog. Crashing a car.
That thing feels like a starting/ending point - the corner is turned, the lightbulb goes on...everything will be different now.
But sometimes, the moment that 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒔 isn't the moment that 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒔 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈.
For me, breaking my shoulders (in my own home, slipping in my socks chasing a Roomba - funny story) was a moment that everything changed.
I learned to ask for help (with things like pants and eating), accept where I was (nursing homes, then confined to home...which actually feels familiar now!), and be willing to let things happen without me (family events, work things, friend stuff).
As a chronic hand-raiser in work and life, breaking my shoulders felt like a literal call to action to stop raising my hand.
I didn't.
Instead, feelings of guilt for needing so much (energy, help from others, time off work), combined with a compulsion to contribute (make up for lost time) had me doubling down, hand-raising even more.
Until one day, when I hit the moment that 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒅 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈.
And I realized I wanted more.
What will your moment be?
